Shop Feature Basmati Bags
Our Shop Feature this week is Basmati Bags. I have to say that the quality of these bags are impeccable. I love the quality of them and the fabric she is using is very nice. Lovely bags , I can tell them are done very nice. Here's more about this little shop. Enjoy! :)
1) How did you come up with the Name of your Shop?
The name of our company came about through irony. Basmati Bags started because the owner (Sara T.) was frustrated that she needed a new bag and couldn't find anything that was both functional, fashionable, and environmentally conscious. But her roommate at the time was an interior designer who had a whole bunch of beautiful fabric samples, and Sara had a whole bunch of burlap food packaging from the all the basmati rice she'd been eating...so before she knew what was happening, she was making her own functional ecochic bags. And the rest is history.
2) Tell us a little bit about your shop and what you think makes it unique?
The motto of our shop is 'Style - Sustainability - Stewardship' and we feel that living this belief system is what really makes us unique. Our commitment to making high quality bags from 100% reclaimed materials has its own special challenges, but our bigger goal has always been to represent a new model where social and environmental integrity are not just an afterthought, but really a core piece of what we do and how we do it. It's been a wild ride so far, but absolutely worth it.
3) What is your favorite item at the store and why?
That's a tough call. Because each of our bags are one-of-a-kind, we fall in love a little bit each time. However, the general consensus is that our new line of stocking handle bags (woven from reclaimed, torn stockings) are quite awesome.
4) What inspires create your products?
Our inspiration comes from the idea that creating beautiful products and doing good in the world can - and should - go hand in hand.
5) Where can we find you?
We can be found at www.basmatibags.com. This site also has links to our facebook page and etsy store.
6) Do you have any coupons or discounts for us?
Right now we're in the middle of our Earth Day contest, where people can submit their nature photos to win a $50.00 gift certificate at our etsy store. Details can be found on our splash page: www.basmatibags.com
7) What advice can you give for other sellers out there for their shop?
The best advise we can give is threefold: Be passionate about your product. Maintain your curiosity about ways to improve. Carve out time on a regular basis to explore what's happening on etsy - it's constantly evolving and there's lots out there that can potentially benefit your shop.
8) What is your favorite food?
Anything involving avocados
9) Describe us one positive event in your life in your life that you felt was a miracle to you or that you knew the Universe was there watching over you.
We checked, and this is one of Sara's favorite feel good stories: One year when she was doing her annual beach cleanup volunteer day she decided to hang out on the beach and give mental warm fuzzies to the ocean, and the sky, and the earth, etc. After a while she noticed some paper fluttering on the sand a yard or so away so she went to clean it up (it was after all, beach cleanup day) and to her amazement when she bent down to pick it up, discovered it was over $800 in cash! There were people all around, but no one else seemed to notice it or be looking for anything. She decided there was one of two options: 1) Someone had lost it, or 2) the Universe had just given her a big warm fuzzie gift right back. Well she posted a lost and found notice and after a month no one claimed it. So it became hers and was put to good use.
10) Anything else you like to share about you
It goes without saying, but we love places that are both beautiful and green.
