Shop Feature: Melvin Avenue Plus Giveaway

This week's Shop Feature is on Melvin Avenue By Amber .  I actually decided to buy a bracelet from this shop. Something about this elephant bracelet was calling to me not to mention that I liked. I will admit  when I first got it, I wasnt sure what to  think.  The beads were smaller than what was in the  photo but when I  wore it, I realized it added a  feminine  touch to it which looks neat. Only thing is that I needed to resize it a half size bigger realize it was a bit too small for my left  wrist. No big deal though,  I found that she was  kind enough to resize it for me and when it came back, it  fit perfectly.

Shop Feature: Ohksocialmedia, It's All About The Social!

This week's Shop feature is Ohksocialmedia by Kristy Gardner. She specializes in Blog Design. there are a few pre-made  templates you can buy if you are trying to make a few changes for your blog. Of course, you could get a total new look here and request a custom design as well. You can also get custom made blog buttons or signatures. the possibilities are  endless just contact her to see what she can do for you.  Check her out  down below for more details about her.

1. How did you come up with the Name of your Shop?

It's a bit of a play on words. I wanted something friendly and approachable that would portray the scope of my business, but still be true to me. One of my girlfriends calls me "K" all the time instead of "Kristy" and then one day it hit me: ohksocial(media). "ohk" as in Okay (friendly and casual); "Oh, K!" as in delightfully surprised at myself; social media because that's what I do = ohksocialmedia.

2. Tell us a little bit about your shop and what you think makes it unique?

My shop is the creative extension of the larger social media consulting and management firm. Essentially I do blog design and I believe It's unique because of my approach. I think blog-platform hosted websites reflect the fluidity of our culture – allowing the flexibility to shift with the times and our audience. We need to move away from traditional websites and evolve. In such, I work very hard to make sure your design reflects you more than it does me which I think is something a lot of design shops don't follow through with.

Shop Feature: Bashful Bear Designs

This week's shop feature is Bashful Bear Designs. This shop  specializes in making Petite clothing  such as  skirts,  shorts and  dresses. She also has a few cute  tote bags which I love  too. I think my favorite item from her shop is the  Green Reversible tote bag. Please  check out more about her and the work she does. you just might find something you like.

1. How did you come up with the Name of your Shop?
The last few years people have started calling me Emma Bear. It’s such a coincidence, because Emma’s Pet by David McPhail was the first book I ever read. It was about a bear named Emma. I thought Bashful + Bear would be a cute and memorable name!

2. Tell us a little bit about your shop and what you think makes it unique?
I started my shop in February 2013. As someone with a petite build, I’ve always found properly fitting clothes hard to come by, especially one’s that are cute! I wanted to focus on clothes that had simple lines with a certain classic femininity about them. I think what makes my shop unique is that I use thrifted materials to make my garments and that the shop focus is on custom made items.

First Experience With Kale

This week I decided to try a new vegetable.  I went to Sprouts and found the kale was on sale. So I decided to give it a try. Of course, I had no idea what I was going to do with it yet until I came across this recipe on Food network.  Honestly, I was  skeptical to have raw kale as when I first looked at it, I wasn't sure how this would turn edible just doing  it.  All I have to say is that its absolutely delicious! It's also healthy and you get your  vegetables and  fruits in one serving. Personally, I think you can substitute  any fruit for mango  but I love mango and I had a bag of  Frozen mango that  I defrosted from Trader Joes to make it work for me. Also the first time, I didn't have  pumpkin seeds  but it still tasted great. Of course,  when I went back to Trader Joe's this week,  I decided to get pumpkin seeds to  make more of this Kale Salad and it tasted even better.

This salad is so easy to make but I really enjoyed the process of it. It's the first time I made salad dressing but I love the honey with it, as it has  a nice blend with how its made. There is one tip I would suggest here, and that is I would rough  chop the kale  leaves up and put in a food  processor.  I find  it  easier and  if you are eating  that day, you wont have to massage the kale that long. It helps  absorbs everything  better that day you're eating it when you break it down with the food processor. You can always make it the day before and  it tastes even better the next day. This  is one of the salads you don't have to worry about the leaves turning brown etc... definitely something that is a keeper  since summer is coming up and only takes minutes to make.  A very versatile  recipe that i know i will be making over and over again.

Here's a video on the salad from Aarti which is the first time I decided to try her recipe. I liked her when she was trying food network star. She's great and a natural with the camera.  In the mean time enjoy the video and recipe and let me know what you think :)
